FILM
About The Program
Film is an art form. Film is also an important industry in the wider business of the media. And its most essential characteristic is that, film is a form of human communication. Thus, studying filmmaking consists not only of learning technical skills and creativity, but also of gaining and applying knowledge of economics, science, and the humanities. The Bachelor program in Film at BINUS UNIVERSITY treats technical skills as an integral part in the understanding of aesthetics, communication, social and cultural knowledge, and also the film business itself. We believe filmmakers must have not only skills, knowledge, and creative attitudes needed in filmmaking, but also art perspectives and socio-cultural understanding, so they can create a movie not only with economic and business considerations but also potentiality to engage in dialogue with the audience.
Objectives
The latest developments in the local film industry and challenges in the global film industry require better filmmakers who do not only depend on technical skills but also creative fields related to storytelling, forms, styles and aesthetics, content, and the film business itself. Better understanding in artistic choices, narratives, society’s requirements, and the media world will create filmmakers with aesthetic and managerial authority, filmmakers with important positions in society’s development.
