The Emerging Nations Science Foundation is a donor-supported, non-profit and non-governmental organization based in Trieste, Italy.

ENSF has been officially recognized as non-profit organization by the Italian authorities on 4 June, 2008, as stated in the Presidential Decree no. 0132, approved by the President of the Region of Friuli Venezia-Giulia. The decree and the statute of ENSF are published in the official bulletin “Bollettino Ufficiale Della Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia” of June 18, 2008, pp 21-25. It is available online.

The foundation’s mission is to promote scientific research and sustainable technological development in emerging nations of Africa, the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent, and Southeast Asia. The Foundation has two mission-oriented roles:

  • First, it seeks to support diverse areas of science and technology research by providing financial grants to institutions and individual scientists.
  • Second, through funding, it encourages to create public awareness of science.

 

ENSF Programs

The Foundation also offers several programs to promote international cooperation and sustainable development.

Research Fellowships for Young Scientists

The Foundation offers partial and full fellowships in cooperation with other renowned research institutions in technologically advanced nations as well as those in the emerging nations of Asia and Africa. The duration of the fellowship is determined on a case-by-case basis and is subject to needs and available funding.

Science for Public Grants

The Foundation strongly supports science dissemination in emerging nations. By providing funds for science fairs, science writing competitions, design and construction of simple scientifc equipments utilizing locally available material, it encourages rational thinking and awareness of science at all levels.

Grants for Conferences and Workshops

By offering funding for international conferences and workshops to be held in Asia and Africa, the Foundation seeks to encourage a discussion on science and technology, bring scientists from various nations together and enchance their R&D capacities.

Travel Grants

Through its travel grants the Foundation contributes not only to North-South and South-South collaboration among scientists, but also international cooperation and understanding among nations.

Prizes for Young Scientists

Through prizes to young scientists, the Foundation strongly encourages excellence in theoretical and experimental research in science.
