The Transnational Higher Education Summit (THES) which will take place in the near future will round up influential figures from various industries and areas, from national and international academicians to governments and industries. THES will be held on 21-22 October 2011.

Speakers invited in the event are industry executives, academic leaders, and representatives from government and policy makers. Discussions will be focused on the latest issues and solutions for related problems.

Profiles of THES speakers:

Veronica Colondam, Founder and CEO of YCAB, Asian of The Year 2010 (Channel News Asia)

Veronica Colondam is the Founder and CEO of Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB) Foundation, a nonprofit independent organization which was first established in 1999. The foundation focuses on youth development.

The purpose of YCAB is to create an independent generation of Indonesian youth by establishing three pillars: education, entrepreneurship and economic aid. Regarding her activities with YCAB, Veronica received several awards, such as Channel News Asia’s Change Maker 2009 & Asian of the Year 2010, Fellow of of Global Social Innovator (2008), Fellow of Asia Society’s 21 Young Leaders (2007) and Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum in 2006.

Veronica also joins in several international organizations and listed as the International Board Member of Ravi Zacharias International Ministry, Member of International Advisory Board of Social Entrepreneurship Program in Pepperdine University and INSEAD. She is also the youngest winner of The United Nations’ Vienna Civil Society Award in 2006.

Pieter Lydian, Director and Country Manager Dell Indonesia

Dell’s success in Indonesia is not to be ignored. Pieter Lydian, the company’s Country Manager, managed to perform excellently. The man, often called Pieter, is responsible to develop and improve the business and infrastructure of Dell Indonesia. In the TI community, Pieter is a well-known personality and he has an extensive experience in networking and working with large organizations in Indonesia.
In 1993, before he became a Country Manager for Dell Indonesia, the alumni of BINUS UNIVERSITY in 1992, majored in Information System, was working in Catur Sentosa Adiprana in hardware distribution and construction area. In 1995, he worked for PT Skill as an IT System Integrator.

In 1996, he was the GM System Integration for Berca Hardayaperkasa group. In Oktober 2006, Pieter was a Senior Client Business Development Manager of Dell for Indonesia, Filipina, Vietnam and Pakistan. In 2008, he was promoted as Business Development Director and now he is lthe Director & Country Manager Dell Indonesia.

Dr. Jos Luhukay, finance industry expert leader and consultant, Best CEO 2006 (SWA)

Dr. Jos Luhukay is a veteran for various senior management positions and equity partnership in various companies. Danamon Bank is one of it. However, in April 2011, Joseph Fellipus Peter Luhukay resigned from Danamon Bank.

After getting his bachelor’s degree from Electrical Engineering, University of Indonesia, Jos Luhukay worked as a technician in various companies from 1972 to 1977. In 1980 he continued his computer studies in the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign, United States. He obtained his doctoral degree in 1983.

After returning from the US, Jos contributed to University of Indonesia, where he once studied. He set up the Computer Faculty of UI. His career rocketed and in no time he became the President of Lippo Bank (2004-2006).
There are still many other large companies where Jos contributed. To mention some of them are Ernst & Young, Niaga Bank, Ministry of Finance of Republic of Indonesia and Ministry of Research and Technology. Jos was also listed as the Deputy Rector of BINUS UNIVERSITY in September 1996.

Dr. Robert Coelen, Vice President International, Stenden University

Dr Robert John Coelen is the Vice President International of Stenden University, Holland. His resume is overwhelming. For 15 years, Robert focuses on international education. He spent most of his time working for projects located in Indonesia.

After being absent for 30 years, Robert came back and worked in Europe. He spent his time in Australia. First as an international student, then as a researcher and academician, until finally Robert became the International Director for two universities in Queensland.

Moreover, Robert was also a regular speaker in national and international conferences, with international college as the focus. He organized the Leiden University Global Ranking Symposium Series and Euroscholars, a student exchange program cooperating with twelve universities.

Professor Graham Kendall, Vice Provost of University of Nottingham (Research and Knowledge Transfer)

Graham Kendall, PhD, BSc (Hons), FORS, is a professor in Computer Science from the University of Nottingham, Inggris. He accepted the honorable title Bachelor of Science (Hons) from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in 1997 and obtained a PhD from University of Nottingham (School of Computer Science) in 2000.

Before working on educational issues, he spent 20 years working in information and technology industry. He worked in many different companies in England. Meanwhile, he worked in various positions, as a computer operator, technical support manager and service manager.

Moreover, Graham also published more than 35 journals and 90 papers. He was the editor for 12 books and wrote 10 chapters of his own book. Graham led several international conferences for the past few years and he was a participant of more than 140 international conferences.

Dr. Thee Kian Wie, Senior Economist, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI)

For the last 50 years, Dr. Thee Kian Wie has devoted himself for the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI). Even though he has now retired, the name of Thee Kian Wie still amazes those working in economy and research areas. Yes, the man who was born in Jakarta, 20 April 1935, is known as an expert in economy, a writer, and a senior researcher in Indonesia.

Thee obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Wisconsin, United States, in 1969. Back then, his dissertation topic was considered quite rare in Southeast Asia. Thee also has a special interest on society’s problems, focusing on industrial development research, capital in industry and technology development.

Some of his researches are The Regional Economic Survey of South Sumatera (1971), Report on the Main Field Survey (1972), Indian Direct Investment in Indonesia (1980), Development of Industrial Technology in Indonesia (1997) and Indonesia Industrialized, Analysis and Critical Notes (1998).

For his achievements, he received notable awards. Bintang Jasa Utama award, Bintang Jasa Nararya award, Honoris Causa Doctoral Degree from Australian National University (2004), The Habibie Award 2006 and Kompas Award 2008 for intellectual economic.

Rectors and Leaders from NUNI

Representatives from 26 universities in Indonesia gathered in Anggrek Campus of BINUS UNIVERSITY for the National Universities Network Indonesia (NUNI). The event, held on 3-4 August 2011, discussed a collaboration strategy for universities in Indonesia.
In addition to the three speakers mentioned earlier, rectors from universities in Indonesia listed in National Universities Network Indonesia (NUNI) also acted as speakers. NUNI is a collaboration of various universities in Indonesia, and its purpose is to improve mobility, quality and continuity of higher education in Indonesia.

NUNI was formed by universities in Indonesia to respond to globalization in higher education. NUNI focuses on three key points: mobilization of lecturers, students and research.

NUNI is also utilized to use resources and competences to create and spread knowledge. This way, NUNI members can share experiences, improve their competency and create networks, not only between themselves, but also bilaterally. (YD & RA)
