BINUS university provides free public access to open and green spaces as part of our commitment to the green campus concept. We believe that green spaces not only enhance the beauty of the campus but also support sustainability.

• Green Campus Policy and Sustainable Initiatives: Our university, like BINUS University in Alam Sutera, advocates for the Green Campus concept as an initiative to address climate change. This policy includes the management of open and green spaces that are accessible to the public. The construction and development of BINUS University consider various environmental aspects, with campus buildings designed to enhance air circulation through large windows and maximize natural lighting. This approach aims to minimize electricity use and reduce the campus’s carbon footprint, while the existing green spaces contribute to improving air quality and creating a more pleasant environment.

• Green Space Facilities: We have several facilities, such as:
  • Educational Garden: This garden serves as a learning space for students and the community, equipped with comfortable seating areas for discussions, outdoor seminars, and community activities.
    

• • Open Space for Events: A large area that can be utilized for various community activities, such as concerts or environmental festivals.
    

• Pedestrian Pathways: Well-maintained pedestrian pathways connect various green spaces and facilities, encouraging walking and cycling within the campus, promoting a healthier lifestyle and reducing reliance on vehicles.
  

BINUS University is dedicated to the recording and preservation of intangible cultural heritage, encompassing local folklore, traditions, language, and knowledge. The following initiatives exemplify the university’s commitment to these objectives:

1. BeeLintang: This ensemble comprises employees, faculty, students, and alumni of BINUS who perform kolintang music. Through BeeLintang, BINUS not only provides aesthetic enjoyment through the exquisite melodies of kolintang but also plays a significant role in preserving Nusantara culture, particularly this traditional art form, which features a percussion instrument originating from Minahasa.
2. Automated Angklung: This initiative aims to safeguard the angklung, a traditional musical instrument from West Java that was recognized by UNESCO in 2010 as part of the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The program seeks to educate younger generations about the importance of preserving traditional musical instruments while promoting technological advancements.
3. BESTARI BIPA:This program offers instruction in Indonesian for Speakers of Other Languages (BIPA), organized by BINUS. It actively supports the preservation of the Indonesian language and culture on a global scale, reaching participants from 45 countries.

Through these initiatives, BINUS University demonstrates its proactive role in the recording and preservation of intangible cultural heritage.

BINUS University actively contributes to local arts through a significant number of public performances, exceeding 30 in total during 2023, conducted by students, staff, and faculty. The following examples illustrate this commitment:

1. BeeLintang: Known as “BINUSIAN Berseni dengan Kolintang,” this group showcases numerous performances at both local and international levels. Through BeeLintang, BINUS has brought kolintang to the international stage, participating in the Best of ASEAN Performing Arts.
2. Automated Angklung: BINUS presented an automated angklung performance at the Jakarta Innovation Days (JID) 2023. Unlike traditional angklung played manually, this version is designed using computer programs to adapt to the selected songs, showcasing innovation in musical performance.
3. PARAMABIRA: This student choir unit engages in various performances throughout the year with diverse themes. One notable event is the “Ring of Songs,” an annual concert. PARAMABIRA has also achieved recognition by winning competitions at both national and international levels.
4. STAMANARA: This student activity unit focuses on dance and organizes numerous performances, both hosted by BINUS and external parties.
   Additionally, information about these performances is actively shared on social media platforms by each community, ensuring that the broader public is informed and engaged with the arts initiatives at BINUS University.

Through these initiatives, BINUS University demonstrates a robust engagement with the local arts community, significantly contributing to the cultural landscape.

BINUS University provides public access to museums, exhibition spaces, and works of art and artifacts, promoting creativity and artistic expression. BINUS University initiates virtual art exhibitions that are open to the public, allowing broader access to artistic works. Art students are invited to publish their creations, enhancing their visibility and recognition by international artists.

On-site exhibitions include:

• Final Project Exhibition: The “Design. Designer. Designest” event allows students from Visual Communication Design, Interior Design, and Interactive Design and Technology to showcase their projects, expressing their emotions and creativity.
• IFFEST 2023: This annual Interior and Furniture Design Festival features final project exhibitions and various activities, encouraging the public to explore spaces in society that blend commercial needs with everyday activities.

In the virtual realm:

• INACADE: The International Academic on Contemporary Art and Design Exhibition is a platform for discussions and exhibitions of contemporary artwork from various countries, attended by academics in art and design.
• Digital Exhibition by DKV BINUS: Showcases artwork from all students in the Visual Communication Design program.
• Beyond Reality: A virtual space for exploring and experimenting with art, consistently themed around Indonesia’s traditional culture.
• Creative Icon 2023: This exhibition presents works from the Creative Advertising students, combining elements of fine arts and modern technology.

Through these initiatives, BINUS University ensures free access to artistic expressions and cultural events, inviting the public to engage with and appreciate the creative works of its students.

BINUS University provides public access to its libraries, including books and publications, to support educational opportunities for a wider audience. The Library and Knowledge Center (LKC) offers open access services, allowing users to independently access collections. An automated service enhances the user experience, and the LKC is registered with the National Library of Indonesia, highlighting its commitment to preserving valuable resources for both the academic community and the general public.

Additionally, the university has a dedicated website for scientific journals, which can be accessed by the public at https://journal.binus.ac.id/home/. This platform allows users to view and download various publications for free, ensuring that not only BINUS students and lecturers but also educators and the general public can benefit from these resources, thereby promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.
