  1. Policy Framework – Rector’s Decree No. 0136A: This commitment is explicitly articulated in Rector’s Decree No. 0136A (PART II, points E, F, and G), which outlines our policies aimed at removing barriers to participation. Additionally, we adhere to a Zero Tolerance Policy against all forms of violence and discrimination, whether physical, psychological, or emotional. This principle reinforces our mission to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
  2. Rector’s Circular Letter No. 1677A/REK/IX/2023 on Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Violence: BINUS University issued Rector’s Circular Letter No. 1677A/REK/IX/2023, which mandates the application of anti-discrimination and anti-violence measures across the university community. This circular reinforces the university’s Zero Tolerance Policy and emphasizes that all members of the university community are entitled to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, gender, disability, socio-economic status, or any other personal characteristic. The circular also encourages immediate reporting of any incidents of discrimination or violence through official channels, assuring that all reports will be handled seriously and with strict confidentiality.

In particular, the circular outlines the following key points:
BINUS University stands firmly behind its Zero Tolerance Policy toward all forms of discrimination and violence, both physical and psychological.

  • The university is committed to preventing all forms of discrimination, ensuring that all individuals are treated with respect and equality, regardless of their personal or social backgrounds.
  • Any incidents of discrimination or violence should be reported immediately through official campus channels. All reports will be investigated thoroughly, with confidentiality maintained to protect the integrity of the process.
  • Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary action, ranging from warnings to more severe penalties, as stipulated by the university’s code of conduct and regulations.

Our core values emphasize Respect, care for others, and the importance of valuing differences and contributions from every individual. To ensure equitable access, we continually assess our programs and facilities, implementing necessary adjustments to accommodate diverse needs.
Any actions related to discrimination are subject to strict penalties in accordance with applicable rules and regulations, further solidifying our commitment to inclusivity. Through these efforts, BINUS University strives to provide an educational landscape where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and engage in lifelong learning.

BINUS University as a university, faculty staff and students, conducts some events for public who don’t attend the university.

    1. BINUS conducts on-programmed educational outreach activities by inviting BINUS students to participate in a voluntary program to establish tutoring sessions (BIMBEL) for primary and secondary students. For example is a tutoring program for 3rd to 5th-grade elementary students in Kelurahan Sukabumi Utara, West Jakarta. BINUS University students volunteer as tutors, focusing on English skills such as reading, writing, listening, and conversation. The sessions are held twice a week, with five volunteers teaching a group of 20 students, aiming to improve their English proficiency.
    2. In July 2023, BINUS University organized a leadership development training workshop for teachers at Santa Ursula, focusing on enhancing leadership skills such as communication, decision-making, and adaptability. This ad-hoc program aimed to empower educators to become effective leaders who can shape students holistically.

 

 

BINUS University offers several programs related to executive education and vocational training that are open to the general public. These programs are designed to cater to professionals and learners from various backgrounds who seek to enhance their skills without pursuing a full academic degree. Some examples include:

  1. Technical and Business Courses: BINUS provides short-term courses focusing on fields such as Computing, Engineering, and Business. These courses are designed to provide industry-relevant skills and knowledge to working professionals and others who are looking to upskill.
  2. Language and Culture for Business Program: This program is aimed at individuals who want to improve their language skills, particularly in the context of business communication. It helps learners develop cross-cultural communication skills that are essential in the global business environment.
  3. Apple Developer Academy @BINUS: A 10-month vocational program open to individuals aged 18 and above, regardless of their educational background. The academy is part of an initiative to develop world-class developers in Indonesia, focusing on app development and programming skills. It offers scholarships for qualified candidates and encourages participation from across the country.
  4. In-House Training program at BINUS University offers tailored training solutions for organizations to enhance employee skills and knowledge. The program focuses on various topics, including business, technology, and management, and is designed to meet the specific needs of each organization (ad-hoc).

BINUS University regularly hosts events that are open to the public, including public lectures and community educational programs. These activities are part of the university’s mission to foster and empower society. Below are some examples:

  1. The NUNI International Seminar Series: BINUS collaborates with other universities in the Nationwide University Network in Indonesia (NUNI) to hold this seminar series. In 2023, the event titled “Empowering Youth for a Sustainable Future” was held online from May 11-12. This event was open to the public and included various webinars focused on youth empowerment and sustainability. Participants had the opportunity to engage with speakers from international and local universities and contribute to discussions on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  2. Community Educational Events:
    • TNI Mangunggal Membangun Desa (TMMD) Non-Fisik: BINUS University, in collaboration with the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) in Bekasi, organized a community development program. This event involved BINUS lecturers and students providing educational support and tutoring to local communities, contributing to village development. This event is an example of an ad-hoc program that responds to specific community needs as they arise.
    • Small Medium Enterprise (SME) Education on Social Media Usage: During the COVID-19 pandemic, BINUS conducted educational sessions for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) about the importance of utilizing social media to sustain economic growth. This initiative was driven by the challenges SMEs faced during the pandemic and the increasing reliance on online platforms during lockdowns.

  2. MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses): BINUS offers publicly accessible courses at the professional and college level through platforms like Udemy and YouTube, free of charge.
  3. Apple Developer Academy @ BINUS: This initiative aims to empower Indonesia’s economy by developing world-class developers. The program is open to anyone aged 18 or older from any educational background, with full scholarships available for those who qualify.
