BINUS University is committed to ensuring inclusive and equitable access to educational activities for all individuals, regardless of ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, or socio-economic background. This commitment is formalized through:

  • Rector’s Decree No. 0136A, which contains provisions to eliminate barriers and promote equal participation (PART II, points E, F, and G).

  • Rector’s Circular Letter No. 1677A/REK/IX/2023 on Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Violence, which enforces a Zero Tolerance Policy against all forms of discrimination and violence within the university community.

Key points outlined in the Circular Letter include:

  • BINUS University stands firmly against all forms of discrimination and violence, both physical and psychological.

  • All incidents of discrimination or violence must be reported immediately through official campus channels.

  • Reports are handled confidentially, with thorough investigations to ensure integrity and fairness.

  • Violations of the policy may result in disciplinary actions, ranging from warnings to more severe penalties in accordance with university regulations.

In addition to these policies, BINUS University explicitly applies a non-discrimination policy in its admissions process, ensuring equal opportunities for all prospective students without bias based on ethnicity, religion, race, social group, gender, or social and political status. This commitment particularly extends to individuals who require financial assistance and/or have disabilities, guaranteeing that these factors do not become obstacles to accessing higher education.

To operationalize these principles, BINUS University implements several key initiatives:

  • Accessible facilities: including wheelchair ramps, assistive technologies in classrooms, and other accommodations to support students with disabilities.

  • Affirmation Scholarship Program: providing financial aid to students from low-income and underprivileged regions to reduce economic barriers to education.

  • Awareness and training programs: ongoing anti-discrimination and inclusivity training for students, faculty, and staff to promote a respectful and supportive campus culture.

Through this comprehensive framework of policies and programs, BINUS University ensures equitable access to all educational activities for all members of its community, reflecting its mission to foster a safe, diverse, and empowering learning environment.

BINUS University provides free access to a wide range of educational resources for individuals who are not enrolled at the university. As part of its mission to foster and empower the wider community, BINUS has developed several open-access platforms and programs that support inclusive, lifelong learning.

1. Taman Belajar: Open Learning for All Ages and Levels

A key initiative is Taman Belajar, an online learning platform developed by BINUS that is freely accessible to the public, regardless of educational background or age. Users do not need to be BINUS students to register or participate.

Taman Belajar offers:

  • School-level courses for elementary (SD), junior high (SMP), and senior high school (SMA/SMK) students, covering core subjects such as Mathematics, Science, English, Bahasa Indonesia, and Social Studies.

  • Enrichment programs in areas such as Olympiad preparation, photography, public speaking, and introductory programming (e.g., C language).

  • Skill-based and professional courses for adult learners and professionals, including topics like Digital Marketing, AI for Business, Calculus for Machine Learning, and Data Analytics Bootcamps.

All courses are delivered online with structured modules that include video lessons, quizzes, and downloadable learning materials. As a fully web-based platform, Taman Belajar is accessible nationwide and has already reached learners in 30 out of 38 provinces in Indonesia, demonstrating its broad impact and accessibility.

2. BINUS MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses)

BINUS also operates a dedicated MOOC platform that offers university-level courses to the general public at no cost. These self-paced courses are designed to support professional development and exploration in areas such as:

  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

  • Mobile App Development

  • Animation and Design

  • Finance and Econometrics

  • Language and Culture

MOOC content is developed by BINUS faculty members and allows learners from diverse backgrounds to gain practical knowledge and skills.

3. Apple Developer Academy @ BINUS

Another major initiative is the Apple Developer Academy, a nine-month, full-scholarship program in app development, design thinking, and entrepreneurship. The program is open to any Indonesian citizen aged 18 or older, regardless of their educational background or university affiliation.

Participants are provided with learning devices (MacBook and iPhone) and engage in project-based learning through a Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) framework. The program aims to develop future-ready talent and promote inclusive access to digital skills training.

Through initiatives like Taman Belajar, BINUS MOOC, and the Apple Developer Academy, BINUS University has demonstrated a clear and sustained commitment to making education more open, inclusive, and accessible to the broader public. These programs help bridge the gap between formal education and community learning, enabling people of all ages and backgrounds to access high-quality educational resources free of charge.

BINUS University actively undertakes educational outreach activities beyond its campuses, offering tailored lectures, workshops, and demonstrations to local schools and communities, often supported by voluntary student involvement.

For example,

BINUS organized an online training on Permutation and Combination to help high school students prepare for mathematics olympiads. This session enhanced problem-solving skills and strengthened students’ readiness for academic competitions.
In October 2024, a hands-on training on Animation Workflow was conducted at SMKN 3 Tangerang Selatan. Led by BINUS faculty, the program introduced students to industry-standard animation processes—covering pre-production, production, and post-production—while equipping them with practical skills in 2D and 3D animation, project management, and storyboard development.
Additionally, through Teach For Indonesia (TFI), BINUS facilitated a Job Readiness Training at SMK Strada I Jakarta. This outreach program guided vocational students in building essential employability skills, including communication, professionalism, and career preparation.

Pada tanggal 21 Februari 2024 teman-teman mahasiswa dari UKM Teach for Indonesia Student Community (TFI SC) BINUS Bekasi Campus telah kembali mengadakan pertemuan pertama bimbingan belajar untuk warga sekitar kampus BINUS Bekasi.
BINUS University conducts educational outreach activities through the Teach for Indonesia Student Community (TFI SC) at BINUS Bekasi Campus, where students volunteer to provide tutoring sessions for local elementary school students. On February 21, 2024, TFI SC held the first session for 4th to 6th-grade students around the Bekasi campus, focusing on Mathematics and English. The sessions are held every Wednesday, four times a month, aiming to help young learners gain extra knowledge beyond school hours and strengthen BINUS’s commitment to community engagement.

These initiatives highlight BINUS’s commitment to community empowerment, ensuring that its academic expertise and student-led schemes contribute directly to the development of schools and local communities.

BINUS University actively offers executive education programs and vocational training that are open to the public, designed for professionals, employees, and communities outside its regular student body.

Among the flagship initiatives are short courses such as:

  • Strategic Digital Marketing Program, which equips employees with the latest tools, techniques, and strategies to adapt to rapidly changing business environments and digital consumer behavior.

  • Management Development Program (MDP), a leadership-focused training series that strengthens communication, decision-making, and management skills across all levels of corporate leadership.

  • Data Science Training, where participants learn how to collect, analyze, and interpret data for better decision-making and innovation in business processes.

BINUS also provides in-house training programs customized for organizations, enabling companies to upskill their workforce in areas aligned with industry needs.

In addition, the Apple Developer Academy @ BINUS is open to learners 18+ and serves as a vocational training platform. The 9-month program blends coding, design, and professional skills, empowering participants to develop innovative applications while strengthening leadership and teamwork abilities.

Through these initiatives, BINUS demonstrates its commitment to lifelong learning by making high-quality training accessible not only to its students but also to professionals and communities seeking to enhance their skills, stay competitive, and thrive in today’s dynamic economy.

BINUS University actively hosts events that are open to the general public, including community educational programs and public engagement activities.

For example, in July 2024 BINUS, in collaboration with the Aliansi Organis Indonesia, organized Organic Farming Training in Labuan Bajo. This program was open to local farmers and focused on sustainable agricultural practices, equipping participants with knowledge and techniques to improve organic farming productivity.

Another initiative is the Festival Pulau Pramuka, held on October 30–31, 2024, as the closing of a long-term community mentoring program. This public event showcased disaster mitigation applications and featured exhibitions of local MSME products developed through BINUS mentoring. The festival also highlighted community workshops on eco-friendly tourism, waste management, food processing, and barista training—empowering women and local groups as drivers of sustainable economic growth.

Additionally, BINUS, in collaboration with other universities in the Nationwide University Network in Indonesia (NUNI), regularly hosts public seminars open to the general public. In 2024, some of the featured discussions included “Navigating the Changing Economic Landscape Amidst AI-Powered Technological Advancements” and “Stay Ahead of the Curve with Cutting-Edge Tech.”

Through such open events, BINUS demonstrates its strong commitment to knowledge-sharing and community empowerment, ensuring that university resources directly benefit the wider public.
