BINUS University actively collaborates with local, national, and international institutions to promote health and well-being through education, research, and community engagement. These collaborations brought together educators, researchers, and healthcare professionals to create real solutions for community well-being.
- Collaboration with An-Nisa Hospital, Tangerang – Biomedical Device Innovation
At the local level, BINUS ASO School of Engineering (BASE) signed a research partnership with An-Nisa Hospital in Tangerang on May 16 2024. The collaboration focuses on the development of a non-invasive device to detect kidney function disorders using breath analysis. This project exemplifies the integration of engineering and medical sciences in addressing public-health challenges. Through this partnership, BASE engineers and healthcare practitioners aim to improve early detection methods for kidney disease, contributing to more affordable and accessible diagnostic technology in Indonesia.
The initiative also highlights BINUS’s commitment to applying the principles of Industry 4.0 and biomedical engineering in solving real-world health problems that align with SDG 3.
- Collaboration with Imelda University & Hospital Medan – Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare
On June 21, 2024, BINUS University’s Biomedical Data Science Research Center (BDSRC) and Imelda University & Hospital Medan renewed their partnership through a new MoU and MoA, marking the continuation of their collaboration in medical AI research. Following the success of the previous InDRI (Intelligent Diagnosis of Radiology Images) project—which helped radiologists classify lung diseases and automate medical reporting—the new phase focuses on developing AIDTB (Artificial Intelligence Diagnosis of Tuberculosis). This initiative aims to improve the accuracy and efficiency of tuberculosis detection using computer vision, reducing the workload of radiologists and enhancing healthcare services at Imelda Hospital. The signing ceremony involved representatives from both institutions, including Dr. Nelly, Dr. Imelda Liana Ritonga, Prof. Juneman Abraham, and Prof. Bens Pardamean, and concluded with discussions on research impact, community benefits, and future bioinformatics collaborations.
- Collaboration with Yayasan Jamu Tradisional Indonesia (JATI) – Herbal Medicine Research
BINUS University and JATI have launched a four-year research collaboration focused on Indonesian traditional herbal plants. The partnership, formalised by a Memorandum of Understanding, aims to build a comprehensive database of herbal plants, integrate traditional health wisdom with modern scientific research, and pave the way for developing safe and effective herbal drugs and alternative therapies for the Indonesian population. The initiative brings together experts in biotechnology, food technology, and biomedicine from BINUS, and highlights the institution’s commitment to leveraging local natural resources for health innovation and sustainable development.
- Visit to Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Malaysia – Cross-Border Health Research Collaboration.
BINUS University’s delegation visited Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) to explore research and academic collaborations in health and life sciences. During meetings with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Centre for Cancer Research, and UTAR Hospital, both institutions discussed joint projects on herbal drug development, anti-cancer compound screening, stem-cell research, and traditional and complementary medicine. The visit included laboratory tours at UTAR’s Sungai Long and Kampar campuses, where researchers exchanged insights on medical innovation, environmental biotechnology, and potential funding opportunities. Both parties agreed to strengthen cooperation through a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will formalize future research initiatives bridging healthcare, biotechnology, and sustainability.
- National Partnership on Stunting Reduction – Community-Based Health Research
BINUS, through its Doctoral and Research Center (BDSRC), collaborates with the Donggala Regency Government and public health agencies to address stunting reduction in Indonesia. These joint efforts combine community-based research, data analytics, and nutritional-intervention programs to improve child health and nutrition outcomes in underserved regions.
- Collaboration in Drowning Prevention Research
BINUS University faculty members participated in a multi-institutional research project titled “Burden of Unintentional Drowning in Indonesia: Insights from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019,” conducted in collaboration with both educational and health institutions, nationally and internationally. Using data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019, the study examined national patterns of mortality, incidence, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) associated with unintentional drowning. The collaboration brought together researchers, medical experts, and public health professionals to identify high-risk groups—such as children under five, the elderly, and populations in coastal and riverine areas—and to develop evidence-based recommendations for national policy and community-level prevention programs aimed at improving water safety and reducing drowning-related mortality in Indonesia.
In addition, BINUS, through Teach For Indonesia (TFI), regularly organizes Blood Donation Drives in partnership with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI). The Blood Donation 2024 event encouraged students, faculty, and staff to contribute directly to community health by donating blood, fostering a spirit of care and volunteerism across the university
Through these partnerships—spanning mental health awareness, child nutrition, and community health support—BINUS University demonstrates its ongoing commitment to advance Good Health and Well-Being, for locally, nationally, and globally
