Kayutangan Heritage Village Gamified Map by Renata Dylan Tsabita Az Zahra
This thesis project explores the intersection of graphic design, heritage preservation, and interactive tourism through a comprehensive visual identity system created for Kampoeng Heritage Kayutangan, a historical destination in Malang, Indonesia, dating back to the 13th century. Famous for its preserved colonial-style architecture and rich cultural story, the neighborhood serves as the backdrop for an innovative design initiative aimed at elevating visitor engagement. By addressing the need for modern, interactive ways to navigate historical spaces, the project seeks to transform traditional, passive sightseeing into an active exploration of local history.
At the center of this creative work is an interactive gamified map coupled with a physical stamp rally mechanism designed to guide visitors through designated cultural checkpoints. To make the historical journey appealing to younger demographicsparticularly Gen Z and millennial travelers. The visual design merges classic heritage motifs with energetic Pop Art influences, this hybrid visual language delivers a colorful, approachable, and memorable brand experience that encourages tourists to discover hidden gems and immerse themselves in the local atmosphere.
