“B-O-DY” Diabetes Prevention Comic by Ramanda Almash Khadafi
This academic creative project explores the intersection of visual narrative design and health literacy, using metaphor-driven storytelling to promote body awareness among younger audiences. By framing human physiology through an engaging sci-fi mechanism, the work addresses the growing need for accessible health education regarding internal wellness and daily lifestyle habits. The narrative serves as an approachable medium to demystify essential organ functions while encouraging proactive personal responsibility for one’s physical well-being.
At its core, the project translates intricate medical insights, such as renal filtration dynamics, fluid balance, and the cumulative impact of dietary choices like excessive sugar and sodium, into dynamic visual metaphors. Rather than delivering traditional didactic instructions, the story illustrates internal biological processes through a symbolic struggle within a pilot-and-machine framework. This imaginative strategy makes critical concepts like early warning signs, hydration, and long-term health consequences relatable and memorable for a youth demographic.
