Visual Novel Game for Traditional Javanese Script by Christinabel Valencia
Indonesia is a country rich in ethnic, cultural, traditional, religious, and artistic diversity. The cultural values of a nation can be reflected through the traditions and customs of each region. This culture must be preserved, protected, and utilized. In the era of globalization, increasingly more foreign cultures are entering Indonesia. This has caused Indonesian cultural heritage to become nearly extinct, one of which is the Javanese script. The Javanese script is now being abandoned by many people. In addition, the method of introducing the Javanese script in school environments is very limited.
The purpose of this research is to design a visual novel game about the history of the Javanese script that can serve as an educational medium for cultural preservation, while also providing entertainment and enjoyment for its players. The design of this visual novel game tells the history of the Javanese script through the legend of Aji Saka in an engaging and enjoyable way, enabling players to understand educational insights and knowledge through the gameplay.
The design of this visual novel game is expected to introduce the Javanese script culture to the younger generation. The final result of this design is a computer game featuring an interactive story with appealing visuals, capable of introducing the Javanese script culture to young people.
