“Rumah Silent” Visual Media Rebranding by Gavriel Rama Evantya

This undergraduate thesis project focuses on the visual rebranding of Rumah Silent, a unique social cafe located in Malang, East Java. Designed as an inclusive safe space for the local Deaf community (Teman Tuli) and the general public, the cafe embodies the concept of non-verbal communication and tranquil social interaction. The main goal of this rebranding project is to transform the cafe’s original visual presentation into a cohesive, professional, and memorable brand identity that effectively reflects its warm, welcoming, and inclusive values.
At the heart of the new visual identity is a meaningful logo design that integrates several symbolic elements. The house silhouette represents a cozy and safe environment, while the figure of a woman holding a coffee cup with a shushing finger gesture visually signifies non-verbal communication, quietness, and social warmth. Typography plays an equally crucial role, combining the classic serif Bodoni MT for the word “rumah” to convey homey comfort, and the clean sans-serif Montserrat for “silent” to reflect a modern, accessible, and inclusive atmosphere. A warm color palette dominated by deep red and soft cream further solidifies the brand’s friendly and intimate tone.
To ensure a seamless brand narrative across all touchpoints, the design system was comprehensively implemented into various practical brand collateral. This includes a structured and readable menu layout, social media assets such as promotional Instagram feeds and video content, as well as branded merchandise like t-shirts featuring the inspirational tagline “Setara dalam Setiap Cara” (Equal in Every Way). Through this holistic visual rebranding, the project successfully elevates Rumah Silent’s brand presence, strengthening its positioning as both a thriving commercial establishment and a meaningful community hub.
