Lecturers Collaborate Across Campuses to Provide Training to MSMEs Operating in the F&B Industry

To support the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) within the Food and Beverage (F&B) sector. Binus @Malang decided to hold a workshop on 26 October 2024. This workshop was hosted by lecturers from two academic institutions collaborating to deliver specialized training. The initiative is led by Mr. Yohanes Kristianto, a lecturer in the Nutrition Department at the Health Polytechnic, Ministry of Health in Malang, and Mrs. Yudhistya Ayu Kusumawati, S.Sn., M.Ds. a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design at Binus Malang. This collaboration aims to improve the knowledge and skills needed by MSMEs owners and employees to empower them, and enhance the quality of their products and optimize food safety practices.
This workshop provides the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for operating a successful F&B business. The collaboration between lecturers has allowed for a diverse approach, ensuring that the training is tailored to the specific needs of MSMEs. This workshop begins with lectures covering essential topics in the food and beverage industry.
Mr. Yohanes Kristianto, with his expertise in nutrition explains safe food handling, healthy ingredient choices that impact both product quality and consumer health, and how to innovate with a nutrient-dense food product. On the other hand Mrs Yudhistya Ayu Kusumawati, with her background in Visual Communication Design contributes by addressing the role of product presentation and packaging in the food and beverage industry. She emphasizes the significance of effective branding, visual appeal, and consumer engagement through design is. And her lecture offered insights on how MSMEs can create attractive and functional packaging that reflects the value of the brand while maintaining product integrity and compliance with health regulations
Ultimately, this workshop was hoping to help MSMEs gain valuable insights into optimizing both the quality and presentation of their product especially when it comes to nutrients needed in their product and effective branding, which is crucial for their growth and success in a competitive market.
