Course Description – Semester 2
COMM6603019 Organizational Communication and Professional Practice (4 SKS): This course comprises the essential theories and practices of communication in the organizational context. It allows students to recognize and develop communication skills necessary in business and professional contexts to strengthen their careers. The skills consist of excellent writing, consistent use of language (verbal and written), problem-solving abilities, solid use of technology and social media, enthusiasm for work and people, a moral and ethical foundation, the ability to adapt quickly to new ideas, and being a role model for others. It could be preparation for students who will take the internship.
COMM6491012 Political Communication (2 SKS): This course will give a complete understanding of the students about the connection between politics and communication, especially about the mass communication theory, mass media, and their relationship with the politics situation in Indonesia and the world. This course is a Global Learning System Course and Guest Lecturer.
COMM6273012 Theory of Communication (4 SKS): This course introduces the field of communication to students who may have little or no background in communication theory. Its three overriding goals are to help students understand the pervasiveness of theory in their lives, demystify the theoretical process, and help students become more systematic and critical in their thinking about theory. It also focuses on the links between theory and everyday experiences that can help students become insightful, critical thinkers. This course is closely related to several other subjects such as interpersonal communication, organizational communication, public speaking, mass communication theories, intercultural communication, and quantitative and qualitative research methods in communication contexts.
COMM6276012 Intercultural Communication (4 SKS): This course comprises basic knowledge and principles of relationship between communication and culture, which cannot be separated. It gives the students knowledge of the influence of globalization; perception and communication; language, cultural identity and cultural patterns; cultural influence on business and educational setting; and intercultural communication competence.
