Brave Before Ready: Josephine’s Leap to South Korea
“At first, I felt scared and unsure.”
That is how Josephine Angelique Asihananta, a Creativepreneurship student at BINUS @Bandung, describes the beginning of her journey. She wondered whether she could adapt to a new environment, meet people from different countries, and live far away from her family.
The fear was real. But so was the dream.
As a Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) Awardee 2026, Josephine was given the chance to make her dream of studying in South Korea come true, an opportunity she is deeply grateful for.
What followed gave her far more than she had ever imagined. Josephine learned to become more independent. Her circle of friends grew wider. She got to know new cultures and gained a different kind of academic experience.
Along the way, she discovered a lesson she now carries with her:
“We don’t have to wait until we feel ready, or until we are no longer afraid, to take a new opportunity. Sometimes, we just need the courage to try and the belief that we can get through it.”
It is a journey Josephine will always be grateful for: the opportunity, the experiences, and every person she met along the way.
