At the International Mother Language Day Festival 2024, Brian Jevon T., S.Hum. captivated the audience with his insights on the role of language in character building. As Jajaka Pinilih Jawa Barat (2023) and President of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences Student Council, Brian’s expertise in linguistics and youth empowerment is unparalleled.
Brian highlighted the alarming statistic that only 40% of children in West Java are familiar with or can speak Sundanese. He emphasized the importance of revitalizing regional languages to preserve cultural identity and nurture a sense of belonging.
Through his experiences as Jajaka Budaya Jawa Barat (2018), Brian has worked tirelessly to promote linguistic awareness among youth. His engaging presentation encouraged the audience to see their mother language as a bridge to their cultural roots and a foundation for building strong, ethical characters.
Hosted at BINUS Bandung, the event provided a platform for meaningful discussions on how language can shape identity, culture, and character in today’s youth.
