Far From Home, Never Alone: Novi’s Five Months in Bangkok
Breaking the fast together. Celebrating Lebaran. Sharing stories and experiences with Indonesians living in Thailand. All of it took place at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Bangkok, and for Novi Kirana Ramadhania, it became one of the most memorable moments of her time abroad. Even far from her homeland, she could still feel a sense of togetherness with fellow Indonesians.
That moment was part of a bigger journey. Novi, a Creativepreneurship student at BINUS @Bandung, spent around five months at Bangkok University, Thailand, through a study abroad program from BINUS University, an experience she describes as truly memorable. There, she got to live the life of an international student, discover a new culture, broaden her horizons, and build international connections.
Her days in Thailand brought her together with students from many different countries. They exchanged stories, and through them, Novi gained new perspectives. She also had the chance to explore interesting places and try new experiences.
Not everything came easily. Language differences made communication a challenge, especially adjusting to English and understanding Thai in everyday life. Yet these challenges became a valuable part of her adaptation process.
Through it all, support was never far away. BINUS University, especially BINUS Bandung, regularly checked in on the students and made sure they were doing well while abroad. Whenever Novi faced difficulties or needed help, the campus was responsive and ready to assist, so she still felt cared for even while far from Indonesia.
The program left Novi with new experiences and insights that will be valuable for her future: the ability to adapt in an international environment, a deeper understanding of cultural differences, and connections with people from different countries. For Novi, these are meaningful assets she will carry into her future career.
