Jakarta, 14 November — BINUS University’s Animation program had an exclusive masterclass on the foundation of film production with Gaston Marcotti, the CEO of Bizaroïd – a post-production house from France known for its excellence in visual effects and beauty retouching.

Technology advancements are propelling the global film industry to new heights, enhancing production quality, efficiency, and creativity. Therefore, Gaston stressed the value of brand identity by examining a brand’s historical and cultural background. 

“In-depth research is the foundation for understanding and aligning a brand’s background with contemporary trends. The insights gained are then utilized as data for shaping design concepts and production processes. Meanwhile, Technology serves as an essential tool to enhance efficiency in data processing, design, editing, and final touches,” he explained.

The rapid advancement in artificial intelligence also sparked a great discussion at BINUS University @Anggrek—Syahdan campus to help with the process. Gaston urged our faculty members to strengthen students’ mastery of computer-generated imagery (CGI), a widely used technique in production. However, being overly dependent on AI, he conceded that certain AI capabilities are necessary for specific tasks, such as precise and delicate retouching. This approach, which preserves the natural look while enhancing visual quality, was instrumental in the Chanel and Jimmy Choo projects. 

“Students need to have a solid grasp of digital technology and be skilled in using technological tools for film production, as this will make it easier for them to begin their careers in the industry,” added him.  

Aligned with BINUS University’s mission to offer global experiences, this masterclass and FGD session with an international film industry expert will equip our faculty members and students with up-to-date industry insights that help them understand the current demands of film production and audience demands.
