Empowering High School Students: Digital Business Product Mockup

BINUS University in Bandung recently hosted a community service workshop aimed at educating high school students in the area about digital business. Held on July 28, 2023, the workshop was designed to introduce Generation Z to the concept of digital business and help them kickstart their entrepreneurial journey.

Workshop Activities

The workshop was split into three activities, starting with a lecturing session that explained the design thinking method. Here, students learned to investigate user problems, synthesize observations, propose multiple solutions, create prototypes, and test their ideas.

After that, students learned about product mockups that focus on UI and UX design. A mockup is a model of a design concept that will be applied to a product. It can be categorized into low-fidelity or high-fidelity. Low-fidelity mockups are designs that are still simple, while high-fidelity mockups are designs that have been refined and more complex. User Interface (UI) design focuses on incorporating visual hierarchy into the design for users to follow. UI design includes color schemes, typefaces, iconography, and layout. User Experience (UX) is responsible for designing the experience a user has when interacting with a product by creating an easy-to-use product.

The second activity, an engaging session, saw students divided into groups to visualize their digital business ideas and create low-fidelity mockups. Lecturers and students from BINUS University assisted with the process.

The final stage of the workshop was turned into a competition, where students presented their business ideas and product mockups and received feedback from lecturers. The group with the best idea and mockup was declared the winner.
