Tangerang, 30 January 2024 — The morning shower didn’t stop our team from visiting the Immigration Academy, where two of our BINUS University lecturers had the chance to discuss the practical communication skills that the students can use as part of their studies.
This informative two-day workshop, held at Politeknik Imigrasi (Immigration Academy) on January 29th and 30th, 2024, equipped over 500 students with valuable practical communication skills for their future careers.
Mariko Rizkiansyah S.Sos, M.I.Kom from the Communication Program at BINUS University International’s Faculty of Digital Communication and Hotel Tourism, kicked off the event by defining a content creator as an individual who generate and share digital information with a targeted audience. He emphasized the importance of creating content that is not only attractive but also beneficial to the viewers, addressing their challenges and offering solutions.
Mariko further explored the diverse formats content creators can utilize, including e-books, photographs, infographics, blogs, bulletins, and videos. He concluded his interactive presentation by introducing several AI tools that can empower participants to produce impactful content.
We go the extra mile where on the second day, Hamzah Ramadhan, a Communication Lecturer from the School of Computing and Creative Arts at BINUS University International, delved into the art of “writing for the ear,” a crucial skill in the booming podcasting industry. He began by revisiting the fundamental journalistic principle of the 5Ws and 1H (Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How), highlighting its role in ensuring content clarity.
Hamzah then addressed the concept of audience-driven content length, advocating for conciseness and prioritizing impactful messaging. He emphasized the power of vocal delivery, encouraging students to develop a unique and identifiable voice for their presentations.
The workshop culminated in a practical session where five participants drafted and presented their podcast scripts, receiving valuable constructive feedback from their peers. This interactive exercise provided them with an opportunity to refine their communication skills in a supportive environment.
