Jakarta, 2 April 2024 – In a pioneering step towards advancing sustainable education and innovation, BINUS University and Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), Singapore, have recently initiated a strategic collaboration to organize the TF SCALE programs under the theme of Circular Design, involving 30 design-related students from both institutions.
TF SCALE programs, funded by the TEMASEK Foundation, aim to foster mutual understanding, build cross-cultural networks, and develop leadership skills among vocational education and training (TVET) students with the potential to be future leaders in Asia within four weeks from 3 to 29 March 2024 in Singapore’s NYP campus and BINUS University in Jakarta.
NYP chose BINUS University based on its international reputation and commitment to empowering society and ASEAN.
Together with facilitators from our Internationalization team and Teach for Indonesia (TFI), students not only grasped the concept but also crafted prototypes, focusing on the innovative process of designing and recycling clothing fabric to be both wearable and fashionable.
The program couldn’t have been successful without a collaboration with the Jakarta Recycle Center, the XS project, Waste4 Change, and Komunitas Surat Sobek, which specialized in areas like recycling food waste and repurposing fabric waste for fashion products as part of a practical student project.
Witnessing the successful implementation of these programs, Ms. Liu Jie Hong, a lecturer and manager at NYP School of Design & Media, voiced optimism regarding the prospects for future collaboration between NYP and BINUS University in undertaking sustainable projects.
