BINUS Business School International Undergraduate Program led a Multisite International Summer Course (MISC) event with the “Journey to Sustainability” theme on July 19-30, 2023, in Jakarta, Alam Sutera, Bekasi, Bandung, Malang, and Semarang. The program aimed to expose overseas students to the practice of business sustainability by various companies and local communities in Indonesia as part of BINUS’s vision to foster and empower society. In total, there are 29 international students joined the program, which is coming from ten global universities (i.e., the National University of Singapore, Chung-Ang University, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Hong Kong Shue Yan University, etc.) and representing 12 nationalities (i.e., American, German, Belgian, Korean, Chinese, Australia, Singaporean, etc.).
The MISC program included numerous activities, from several in-class academic enrichment about business practices to industrial visits and local community immersion. The program represented various aspects, such as inclusive participation, comprehensive learning, and strong local collaboration. In this case, the activities are also arranged by BINUS satellite campuses, including BINUS Bekasi, BINUS Bandung, BINUS Semarang, and BINUS Malang. Within the program, each BINUS campuses provide three comprehensive activities, including academic, industry exposure, and cultural immersion.
The academic session was done with a student center learning method where most of the class required students to involve in various activities. For example, classes by the Fashion Design Program are done by adding activities for the participant to make tie-dye t-shirts. On the other hand, classes led by the Business Hotel Management Program are done by not only introducing local culinary businesses but also asking participants to make one.
MISC also includes industrial exposure activities for its participants. Companies that participated in this program focused on providing a good impact on societies, including PT. Paragon Technology & Innovation, PT. Eigerindo Multi Produk Industri (EIGER), PT. MRT Jakarta. The participant learns about how businesses also consider the interest of various stakeholders to maintain their sustainability. In this case, the concept of 3Ps or People, Planet, and Profit are being explained through the company’s practices in CSR and or in the value and supply chain’s activities.
