Binusian Showcases Semarang Raya’s Hidden Gems Through Digital Content

Semarang, 23 December – Each year, through Project Initiatives, Binusians could make a positive impact on society.

This year, WIPI or Wisata Pintar through our very own Research and Community Development Unit, assigned Egy Putra Nanda, our student from the Visual Communication Design (DKV) program, and Steven Christian Subagyo as our Computer Science Student, embarked on a journey to produce digital content to uncover several hidden gems in the Semarang Raya region namely Awanncosta and Boemisora.

Both locations remain largely undiscovered. If you are seeking a coastal experience with breathtaking ocean views, AwannCosta—a modern entertainment complex in Semarang—offers a vibrant destination complete with family-friendly activities and modern amenities. Alternatively, if you prefer a different landscape, Boemisora, located at the foot of Mount Merbabu in Central Java, provides a serene escape with its agroforestry concept, lush greenery, and various family-friendly activities.

The content production process at both locations is thorough. It involves exploring the sites, interviewing managers, and crafting promotional narratives that highlight each destination’s uniqueness. Additionally, an elaborate effort is made to coordinate ten teams of students from various disciplines and cohorts, who work together to develop digital video content for ten identified hidden gems.

“A fascinating challenge as it involves other (students) from various backgrounds. We’ve learned to complement each other’s skills while making tangible contributions to the community through the content we produced,” as expressed by Egy.

The resulting videos have become key reference materials for the Content Creation minor program at BINUS University @Semarang Campus!

Through the WIPI initiative, BINUS University not only promotes tourist destinations but also empowers local communities. It aims for a positive impact that increases exposure to hidden gems in the Semarang Raya area. Additionally, WIPI supports efforts to preserve culture and the environment, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically points 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
