Proactive Moves Towards Sustainability with New Charging Station for Electric Vehicles at BINUS UNIVERSITY
Jakarta, 16 December— Joining the national drive for sustainable progress and the adoption of green transportation, BINUS University has demonstrated its commitment by establishing facilities for electric vehicle users. The initiative was inspired by the growing use of electric bicycles and motorbikes among the university’s community.

Demonstrating our dedication to sustainability, we established a charging station in the basement of our Anggrek Campus, exclusively for electric bicycles and motorbikes. This initiative offers a convenient option for students, staff, and faculty who need to recharge their vehicles during busy campus schedules.

The idea and develoment for the charging station was initiated by Zaki Kalalata, Building Manager (BM) of BINUS Higher Education Greater Jakarta, with support from the Maintenance Engineering (ME) team. The charging station project commenced in late 2023 and became fully operational in mid-2024.
“Observing the rise in electric bike and motorbike users on campus, I recognized the need to provide a charging station using recycled lift batteries recharged with solar energy,” said Zaki Kalalata.

Funded by BINUS Foundation, the charging station uses solar panels to generate 2,400–2,800 watts of electricity, distributed across five outlets, enabling a three to four hours recharge per an electric vehicle, which offers convenient access for our students, staff, and faculty who rely on electric vehicles, especially those traveling long distances and needing frequent recharges.

This charging station is a tangible representation of our dedication to sustainable practices and environmental responsibility and reaffirms our vision of becoming a world-class university dedicated to fostering and empowering society while contributing to a sustainable future.
