Music museums are a historical icon of the recording industry in Indonesia and have significantly influenced the nation’s music history. However, they currently face challenges in maintaining their relevance and appeal, especially to the younger generation. This study examines the use of technology to enhance visitor engagement at music museums in Indonesia. The study subjects are music museums located in cultural heritage buildings, requiring technology to maintain the authenticity of the structure, and music museums located in modern buildings with flexible interior design. The study used a qualitative approach through direct observation and literature review to analyse the interior elements and applied technology. The results show that both museums implement a participatory museum concept by utilising technologies such as audiovisuals, touchscreens, sensors, smart lighting, cloud integration, projectors, and interactive recreation facilities. These technologies function as information media, supporting collection narratives, creating thematic atmospheres, providing a means of interaction and independent exploration, and providing interior design solutions for museums located in cultural heritage buildings. This application not only strengthens the museum’s appeal but also creates an immersive experience that combines education and entertainment (edutainment), thereby enhancing emotional connection and active visitor engagement.
