Not necessarily, However it is recomended. Pen Tablets can be helpful if you want to create a design from scratch or digital drawing. Getting used to Pen Tablets will most likely be beneficial in the future when you work in the design industry.
Ideally, you would want a laptop with a powerful specs to handle heavy and intensive tasks and adequate display resolution and colour accuracy. However we understand that everyone’s budget varies. Therefore, here are the minimum specs you need for your laptop:
1. Spacious SSD is required (at least 512 GB storage or more).
2. Your screen needs to be 100% sRGB for colour accuracy and atleast 1920 x 1080 resolution.
3. Good Multi-core Processor is needed for performance, efficiency, and speed. (Processor examples: Ryzen 5 7000x, Ryzen 7000x, Intel Core i5-12600k, Intel Core i7-11700K).
4. 16 GB RAM is required (8 GB RAM or lower might lead to frequent lag, crashes, and slow performance)
Feel free to go for higher end laptop for a guaranteed excellent performance and better overall experience at doing tasks on your laptop, especially if you are planning to enroll into 2D+ Animation, 3D Animation, or even New Media selective pathway in the 4th semester.
The 2D+ Animation Streaming program at DKV BINUS Bandung is designed to equip students for the modern animation landscape through a practical and theoretical approach. In this program, students will study the fundamentals of two-dimensional animation, three-dimensional animation, encompassing animation principles, drawing techniques, and the use of contemporary animation software. With a pedagogical focus on fostering creativity and innovation, this program provides students with the opportunity to explore various styles and techniques of animation, thereby equipping them with the necessary skills for success in the creative industry.
While both Visual Communication Design and Fine Arts involve the creation of visual works, they serve distinct purposes. Fine Arts primarily focuses on the artistic expression of ideas and emotions, often for aesthetic appreciation and contemplation. In contrast, DKV emphasizes the effective and strategic use of visual elements to communicate messages and achieve specific goals within commercial or institutional contexts, designing visuals for branding, advertising, user interfaces, and other practical applications.
Students will learn various aspects of design and visual communication to create effective and aesthetic messages and problem solving, starting from the introduction of design elements and principles, how to draw well and as needed, communicate good visuals and the use of software as a support for visual creation that keeps up with the times.
Although having a talent for drawing can be very helpful, but not only the ability to draw to be able to produce good VCD work. Each course requires overall design and creativity skills such as the ability to think critically, creatively, the use of analogue and digital visual media and the ability to convey visual messages effectively.
