The 2025 ISM data says otherwise: 72% of industry partners who have engaged with BINUS are already open to joint research. The bottleneck is almost never the industry. It’s the first move that never gets made.

This is a meaningful number to sit with. It means that across the 13 industry partners who participated in ISM sessions in 2025, the majority were not waiting to be persuaded — they were waiting to be matched. The challenge BINUS RTT has spent years solving is not a demand problem. The ecosystem has real, documented interest from industry. What’s missing, in most cases, is the lecturer who registers their product, shows up to an ISM event, or sends that first email to tech.transfer@binus.edu.

For a BINUS lecturer, this reframing matters for concrete reasons. The 2026 KPI framework for RTT targets 50 active industry partnerships and 100 joint publications or HKI outputs. These are not aspirational numbers invented in isolation — they reflect the actual capacity of the partner network to absorb collaboration. If you’re a lecturer building toward Lektor Kepala or working to strengthen your BKD profile, external collaboration and industry-connected outputs are among the most credible evidence you can submit. Industry-backed joint research and HKI registration both contribute meaningfully to the research component of your angka kredit portfolio. But none of that starts unless you enter the ecosystem.

The ISM program — Industry Solution Matching — is BINUS RTT’s structured bridge between researcher supply and industry demand. It is not a networking event or a passive platform. It operates through a Bank of Industry Problems, updated regularly on BRIDGE: Opportunities, and through ISM Day matchmaking sessions where researchers and industry representatives meet in structured, facilitated environments. When a match is found, it can develop into a formal Perjanjian Kerja Sama (PKS), a joint research project, or a licensing arrangement — all of which carry real Angka Kredit value.

A comparable example outside BINUS is worth noting. Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) has been operating its Technology Business Incubator (TBI) and industry matching infrastructure since the early 2010s, and by 2022 reported over 200 active industry collaboration agreements, many of which originated from structured matchmaking events rather than cold outreach (ITB Annual Report, 2022). The infrastructure precedes the volume. BINUS is building that same infrastructure now — which means 2026 is a particularly well-timed moment to enter.

There is also a less visible dynamic worth naming: the 2025 ISM report identified alumni connections (IKA BINUS) as the strongest single driver of industry participation. Companies that have BINUS graduates in their leadership or technical teams are substantially more willing to formalize research collaboration. This means that even before you attend an ISM event or register on BRIDGE, you may already have a warm entry point — a former student now working in industry who remembers your lab, your course, or your research direction. The program can help you trace and activate those connections if you engage with it.

The practical starting point is simple. Register your research product on BRIDGE Apps if you haven’t done so. Monitor BRIDGE: Opportunities for the latest industry RfPs. Attend the next ISM Day — dates are communicated through the RTT newsletter and social channels. And if you want a more direct conversation about which partner might fit your research stage and area, email tech.transfer@binus.edu and ask RTT to help you identify a match. That conversation costs nothing and is exactly what the team is there for.

The demand is there. The infrastructure is there. The only thing the 72% are waiting for is you to show up.
