Digital Business BINUS @Semarang Strengthens Global Academic Collaboration through Faculty Mobility Program at MSU Malaysia
Digital Business BINUS @Semarang strengthened its commitment to international academic engagement by participating in the Faculty Mobility Program at Management and Science University (MSU), Malaysia, from 10 to 12 May 2026. The program brought together academic leaders from BINUS University and MSU Malaysia to exchange knowledge, explore collaborative opportunities, and develop stronger connections between higher education institutions in Indonesia and Malaysia.
Representing Digital Business BINUS @Semarang, Henkie Ongowarsito, Head of the Digital Business Study Program, joined Doni Purnama Alamsyah, Head of the Creativepreneurship Study Program at BINUS Bandung, and Etsa Astridya Setiyati, Head of the Creativepreneurship Study Program at BINUS Malang. Their participation reflected BINUS University’s collaborative approach to expanding international academic networks across campuses and disciplines.
Throughout the program, the BINUS delegation participated in a series of activities that included academic sharing, teaching sessions, cultural visits, and community service collaboration. These activities provided opportunities for faculty members from both institutions to exchange perspectives on teaching practices, curriculum development, academic management, student engagement, research, entrepreneurship, and the continuing transformation of higher education.
The academic sharing and teaching sessions served as important platforms for discussing how universities can prepare students to navigate an increasingly digital and interconnected business environment. As digital technologies continue to transform organizations, markets, and consumer behavior, higher education institutions must regularly evaluate whether their curricula, learning methods, and graduate competencies remain relevant to industry and societal needs.

For Digital Business BINUS @Semarang, the Faculty Mobility Program offered valuable insights that can support the continuous development of learning experiences in digital business. International academic interaction allows faculty members to compare educational approaches, identify emerging themes, and explore innovative methods that can be adapted to the local learning context. These insights are particularly relevant to areas such as digital transformation, digital marketing, business analytics, digital entrepreneurship, innovation management, and technology-enabled business models.
Participation in the program also contributes to faculty development. Direct engagement with academics from international partner institutions can broaden perspectives, enrich teaching materials, and encourage the integration of global examples into classroom discussions. Students can consequently gain a better understanding of how digital business practices are implemented across different countries, industries, and cultural settings.
Beyond academic activities, the cultural visits created opportunities for participants to develop intercultural awareness. This competency is increasingly important because digital businesses often operate across geographical and cultural boundaries. Understanding differences in communication, consumer behavior, organizational practices, and market characteristics can help students and faculty members develop more context-sensitive and globally relevant business perspectives.
Community service collaboration was another important component of the program. It demonstrated that knowledge in business, entrepreneurship, and digital technology should not only contribute to commercial development but also address challenges faced by communities. Collaboration between universities can generate initiatives that support digital literacy, community entrepreneurship, MSME development, and the responsible use of technology to create broader social and economic value.
The program also opened opportunities for future collaboration between BINUS University and MSU Malaysia. Potential areas include joint research, guest lectures, faculty and student mobility, collaborative teaching, community development projects, and academic discussions related to digital business and entrepreneurship. These initiatives can strengthen the connection between education, research, industry, and society while providing students with greater exposure to international learning environments.
For students of Digital Business BINUS @Semarang, international faculty engagement can lead to more globally informed learning experiences and broader opportunities for academic and professional development. Exposure to international perspectives is expected to help students develop adaptability, intercultural communication, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving skills. These capabilities are essential for pursuing careers in digital marketing, business analytics, consulting, financial technology, product management, digital transformation, and digital entrepreneurship.
The benefits of this initiative extend beyond the study program. Academic institutions, industry partners, entrepreneurs, MSMEs, and communities can benefit from the exchange of knowledge and the development of cross-border collaboration. By connecting academic expertise with practical challenges, universities can contribute to the creation of responsible, inclusive, and sustainable digital business ecosystems.
Through the Faculty Mobility Program, Digital Business BINUS @Semarang continues to strengthen its international network, enhance faculty capabilities, and bring global perspectives into education, research, and community engagement. This participation represents an important step in preparing students not only to understand the development of digital business but also to contribute actively to its future at the national and international levels.
