Course Description

Powerful Creative Writing is specifically designed for individuals with a strong interest in creative fiction, i.e. short story. There are 10 MOOCs to assist the creative writing enthusiasts in exploring their writing skills and produce their own creative stories. Some tips from master writers such as Stephen King, Jerry Jenkins, Ernest Hemingway, Les Edgerton, and others are provided to motivate the learners. Samples of expressions from classic authors such as O. Henry, Kate Chopin, Jamaica Kincaid, etc. are also provided.  The MOOCs cover the fundamentals of creative writing. They are: The limitation of imagination: The power of storytelling in creative fiction and non-fiction; What is your restlessness: Explorations and samples of story theme and title; Plot design: Crafting your story line; Creating believable characters and living characterization; The warring forces: Exploring conflicts and resolutions; Seasonal settings: Creating story settings by means of your five senses; Who Speaks: Using the right and impactful point of views; Writing evocative dialogues and subtexts; Personalized writing style: Writing in your unique way; and Writing as your legacy. The total duration of the 10 MOOCs is 164.57 minutes. At the end of the course, the participants are expected to be able to produce their very own unforgettable short story.
