Hal ini adalah fakta yang diketahui oleh orang-orang yang mempelajari ilmu komputer. Namun, mengapa komputer menggunakan angka biner? Meskipun pertanyaan ini terdengar sederhana, jawabannya tidak sesederhana yang kita kira. Untuk memahami alasannya, kita perlu mengetahui mengapa para insinyur dan ilmuwan yang merancang komputer memilih sistem angka biner, bukan sistem desimal seperti yang diajarkan di sekolah.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Alasan Penggunaan Sistem Bilangan Biner<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Berita baiknya adalah sistem bilangan biner mudah dimengerti oleh komputer. Sistem ini digunakan oleh berbagai perangkat digital seperti jam tangan, dekoder TV digital, kalkulator, alarm pencuri, ponsel, dan komputer. Sistem biner didasarkan pada dua simbol, yaitu 0 dan 1. Dalam sistem angka biner, 0 mewakili keadaan OFF dan 1 mewakili ON. Status ON dan OFF tersebut menggambarkan kondisi menyalakan atau mematikan sinyal listrik, atau eksponen basis 2.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Untuk menyajikan data numerik dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, kita menggunakan sistem angka desimal. Sayangnya, komputer tidak dapat menggunakan sistem tersebut. Komputer mewakili angka dengan sistem angka dasar terendah, yakni dua, yaitu sistem angka biner. Hal ini dikarenakan komputer menggunakan voltase listrik, dan voltase dapat berubah-ubah sehingga tidak ada voltase khusus untuk setiap angka dalam sistem desimal. Oleh karena itu, biner diukur sebagai sistem dua status: hidup (ON) atau mati (OFF).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Kesederhanaan Sistem Biner dalam Komputer<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Selain itu, sistem angka biner menjaga perhitungan tetap sederhana. Alasannya, sistem dua status adalah yang paling cocok untuk komponen penyimpanan optik dan magnetik komputer. Sakelar pada komputer yang mengendalikan sinyal listrik hanya memiliki dua kondisi, \u201caktif\u201d dan \u201cmati\u201d. Karena hanya dua kondisi ini yang diperlukan, maka hanya dua angka, yaitu 0 dan 1, yang digunakan sebagai simbol dalam sistem biner.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Cara Menyandikan Data dengan Sistem Biner<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sakelar-sakelar tersebut membantu menyandikan angka ke dalam format biner. Nilai kemudian disimpan dalam memori komputer dalam bentuk biner. Pada dasarnya, komputer memiliki banyak saklar ON dan OFF elektronik. Misalnya, jika ada delapan saklar, masing-masing bisa berada dalam kondisi 0 (mati) atau 1 (nyala). Dengan berbagai kombinasi posisi saklar ini, nilai-nilai biner dapat dibaca dan diinterpretasikan oleh komputer. Transistor digunakan sebagai saklar dalam perangkat keras digital, yang dapat dinyalakan dan dimatikan serta membaca status saklar tersebut.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jika terdapat delapan saklar, maka jumlah pengaturan yang mungkin adalah\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">28=256<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">8<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">=256<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> kombinasi status saklar, berdasarkan apakah saklar dalam posisi hidup atau mati.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Mengapa Tidak Menggunakan Sistem Desimal?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sebaliknya, jika komputer menggunakan sistem desimal, akan ada sepuluh kemungkinan status untuk setiap saklar. Hal ini tentu akan memakan waktu lebih banyak dan prosesnya menjadi rumit.
