  1. Yo \u2018ssup? <\/em><\/li>\n
  2. That\u2019s dope! <\/em><\/li>\n
  3. Freakin\u2019 awesome! <\/em><\/li>\n
  4. Hell no!<\/em><\/li>\n
  5. Ass kickin\u2019. <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Well, if you do, congratulations. You have acquired the ability to use an English speaking style called the \u2018street talk\u2019. According to Oxford Dictionary (2018), street talk refers to slang characteristic of modern urban subculture (originally from the US). People who don\u2019t even live in the US still can recognize this style of speaking if they have access to videos or movies with the terms in them.<\/p>\n

    Knowing to speak with this style is considered both good and bad thing, especially for those who are still learning to speak English and yet to know the concept of speaking context. Street talk is mostly popular among teenage and some adult learners as it represents \u2018awesomeness\u2019 (at least that is what they see in the movies).<\/p>\n

    However, what about if it comes to the sphere of public speaking? Is street talk a bad or good thing? To answer this question, we need to include the context and purpose of our public speaking. If your event requires you to act and speak elegantly, never use the street talk style even though you are eager to show that you know the \u2018awesomeness\u2019 in it. Street talk and elegance just do not agree to each other. So, instead of saying \u2018Yo\u2019ssup?\u2019 <\/em>to greet your audience, you can say \u2018how is everyone doing?\u2019 <\/em>if you think \u2018how are you?\u2019<\/em> is too boring. Let me give you some examples of another way to say the rest of the examples in the first paragraph:<\/p>\n

    • That\u2019s dope! <\/em>\u00e0 That is incredible\/ amazing!<\/em><\/li>\n
    • Freakin\u2019 awesome! <\/em>\u00e0 So terrific\/ really wonderful!<\/em><\/li>\n
    • Hell no! <\/em>\u00e0 No way\/ Not a chance\/ Never.<\/em><\/li>\n
    • Ass kickin\u2019 <\/em>\u00e0 amazing\/ stunning\/ excellent <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      In conclusion, street talk is \u2018awesome\u2019 if you put and use it in an appropriate event or context. As a public speaker who is probably still learning to master English, you need to make sure that you use the correct style to your speaking so that you won\u2019t mistakenly disregard or disrespect your audience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
