ABSTRACT

Multi Criteria Decision Models are widely used to construct strategies to various decision- making challenges. Most MCDM models, however, have a rank reversal problem, in which the preference order of the alternatives might change when new alternatives are added to the system, or an existing alternative is deleted. As a result, various techniques to solving the rank reversal problem have been presented. Ranking of Alternatives through Functional mapping of criterion sub-intervals into a Single Interval (RAFSI) method is one of these methods. This innovative method has yet to be applied to real-world challenges. For practical application, the FFS is therefore incorporated to capture the ambiguity and uncertainty of a decision maker’s judgments. The model’s validity is assessed through an illustrative example. Furthermore, a comparative study is executed using crisp values and TIFNs in treating the datasets. Findings revealed that there are only minimal differences among the three approaches. The validity of the model to address the rank reversal problem is also assessed. The results suggest that despite the integration of FFS in the RAFSI method, the rank reversal problem is still addressed. © 2022 ACM.
