Brand creation involves crafting compelling visuals, typography, color schemes, and layouts that establish a brand’s identity and leave a lasting impression. It is also the perception that will determine how a brand will be recognized by the audience. In today’s highly competitive market, successful brands leverage visual communication as a strategic tool for differentiation and connection. This is what makes Visual Communication Design II (VCD II) have an important role in building that perception and the important role in building a strong brand. Visual branding goes beyond mere aesthetics; it is deeply rooted in psychological and cultural principles that influence human perception. The primary goals of visual communication in branding are relevance, consistency, simplicity, and adaptability. Therefore, designs must align with the brand’s mission and audience, consistent in the use of visual elements to ensure a cohesive brand identity, simple to be recognized, and the visual identities should evolve to stay relevant while maintaining core brand values. Take an example of Airbnb’s brand. In 2014, Airbnb underwent a significant rebranding to align its visual identity with its mission of belonging anywhere. Airbnb’s original logo and design were functional but lacked emotional appeal or coherence. The company realized it needed a more meaningful visual identity to connect with its global audience. So, for the rebranding, Airbnb introduced the “Bélo” symbol, representing people, places, love, and community. The new color palette—soft pinks and warm tones— fostered a sense of warmth and inclusivity. A custom typeface was also developed, ensuring every aspect of the brand felt unique. As a result, the rebranding enhanced Airbnb’s global recognition, aligning its visuals with its core message, it strengthened emotional connections with users, and the cohesive design language made the brand instantly identifiable across digital and physical touchpoints. Visual Communication Design II is indispensable in creating and sustaining a strong brand identity. Through thoughtful application of design principles, brands can connect with audiences, convey their values, and achieve lasting recognition. The Airbnb’s rebranding demonstrates the power of effective visual branding in crafting a cohesive and memorable brand experience. For designers and marketers, understanding and implementing these strategies is key to driving brand success in an increasingly visual world.

By Joycelyn Gloria Subagio – 2702233103

Brand is an identity perception formed in a business or company.
