Born in Tanjung Pinang on April 27, 1977, Prof. Widodo Budiharto spent his early years in his hometown before pursuing his studies in Instrumentation Physics at the University of Indonesia in 1995. During his academic journey, he was actively involved in departmental research groups, showing early signs of his deep interest in science and technology.
In 2002, he began his professional career by joining BINUS University. The following year, he earned his Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from STT Benarif Indonesia. His academic path continued with a Doctoral degree from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in 2008. His dedication and contributions to research and education led him to become a full Professor in Artificial Intelligence in August 2017.
Prof. Widodo has received numerous prestigious grants and scholarships internationally. Among them are the Erasmus Mundus scholarship at Université de Bourgogne (France, 2008), the DIKTI Competitive Research Grant (2015–2016), the Visiting Professor Grant from Hosei University (Japan), the Ristek Insinas RI Grant (2014), the JASSO Scholarship, the Sandwich PhD Program (Japan), the Summer School on Images and Robotics Grant (Mexico-France, 2009), and the Toray Science and Technology Research Grants (2014 and 2016). In early 2017, he was awarded the FICEM Erasmus Mundus Grant as a visiting professor at Université de Lorraine and NRCS Inria, France.
With his strong foundation in computer science and artificial intelligence, Prof. Widodo has shared his expertise through extensive publications, including 35 books and numerous accredited and reputable international journals and conference papers. As a faculty member at the School of Computer Science at BINUS University, he continues to inspire and innovate.
Driven by BINUS University’s vision of continuous innovation, Prof. Widodo has developed nine innovative products to date. Notable among them are the mind-controlled wheelchair “Ratanggalih” and the educational robot “BIMAX.” His unwavering commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities and improving education in Indonesia fuels his mission to create meaningful technological solutions for society.
