Fostering Students’ Mental Health and Well-being at BINUS University
Jakarta, 8 August — Being away from home can be difficult. Therefore, being able to discuss mental health is vital, especially for international students. This can help ease the transition into immersing in a new culture while meeting academic requirements, which often triggers feelings of stress, anxiety, or loneliness.
Mental health awareness has increased in our society, but it is still considered taboo by some. As part of BINUS University’s commitment to fostering a supportive and positive environment for all students, our friendly and trained professionals at our Senayan Campus provide services to ensure academic and personal success.
Individuals seeking support can share their concerns on a variety of topics, including anxiety, stress, and depression, while remaining anonymous. Whether it’s related to academic pressure or personal challenges, our counselors are available to listen and provide the support you need.
Concerns about being judged or not understood often discourage people from seeking the help they need. This service aims to ensure that those needing support do not feel alone.
Facing mental health challenges like stress, anxiety, or depression can place a heavy burden on students, affecting their well-being, studies, and daily lives. Aware of the prevalence of these issues, we have taken the initiative to explore the counseling services available at BINUS University International on the Senayan Campuses. These services are offered free of charge to all students, reflecting BINUS University’s commitment to fostering a supportive and positive environment that ensures academic and personal success.
Led by trained professionals, the counseling service ensures confidentiality. It offers a welcoming space to discuss a wide range of issues, from anxiety and stress to more severe challenges like depression. Whether it’s academic pressure or personal difficulties, the counselors are here to listen and provide the support you need.
To better understand this, we contacted our classmates to get their opinions and gauge their awareness of mental health issues within the university community.
See here to know what our fellow students had to share in this interview:
Our findings highlight the need to promote the counseling services offered by the Student Advisory and Support Center (SASC) better. To provide more insight into these services, we spoke with Mr. Muhammad Fijar Rotul Akbar, a counselor at our Senayan Campus.
Watch the full interview here to learn more about their approaches and how they support students.
“There’s a stereotype that counseling is only for people with severe mental health issues, but that is not the case. We’re available to listen to any problems you might have, whether they’re personal or academic. All discussions are confidential, except if there’s a risk of harm. Feel free to reach out; we’re here to support you!”
As we continue to witness mental health issues in our surroundings, it’s crucial to raise awareness, particularly for students who might lack the confidence to speak with counselors. Thank you to our friends who shared their thoughts. You have shown that while some students were unaware of the counseling service, the service is there for you!
