The Apple Developer Academy @BINUS is Asia’s first ever initiative to empower Indonesia’s economy by creating world-class developers for the world’s most innovative and vibrant app ecosystem. The 9-month academy program aims to attract students 18+ across Indonesia from a wide range of backgrounds. Our curriculum is designed to support not only those with coding or computer science experience but also those interested in areas such as design and business. It challenges students to apply themselves in real-world issues via application design, development, and startup creation. It also emphasizes creativity and collaboration which are skills needed for success. This program will be delivered in both Bahasa Indonesia and English.

The Foundation

The iOS Foundation course aims to inspire our student to become world-class developers by introducing learners to app development on the iOS platform. This 4-week program currently takes place on BINUS UNIVERSITY’s Alam Sutera campus, one of the best private universities in Indonesia. The foundation is open to BINUS active students from any course and any semester.

Classes are led by Apple-trained instructors and focus on fundamentals of coding with Swift – Apple’s powerful and intuitive programming language created to build apps for iOS. They take place weekly, and students will learn a wide range of topics from technical-oriented OOP, Swift syntax, UI kit, to other skill sets including CBL, UI/UX, value proposition and rapid prototyping. Whoever wants to join the academy can start building their skills by attending the foundation.

  • Who Can Attend

    The program is focused on developing apps in Apple ecosystem and targeting highly motivated, self-taught, creative people who work well in a team and with an entrepreneurial vision. Candidates must be 18+, and may come from various education background (non IT background is welcome).  For the 2018/19 cohort, the academy will accept 200 learners separated into morning and afternoon classes.
     70% of the participants will be selected based on technical merit. Applicants for the technical track should preferably be from, but not limited to, Computer Sciences, Mobile Programming, Game Programming, Business Information Systems, etc. The necessary technical knowledge may be: object-oriented knowledge and programming logic, both theoretical and practical. Knowledge in the area of design, IHC (human computer interface) and UX (user experience), especially for mobile applications, are differential. Finally, knowing the Apple ecosystem, as a user or developer, can be considered. Practical experience working on iOS devices or past experience in app development. The other 30% will of the intake will be selected based on creative merit. Where a design or idea portfolio will be assessed. Candidate for this track may be of design background or other specialized disciplines such as humanities, medical, business, or liberal arts.

  • What are the requirements to join this program?

    There will be 2 Selection Processes: Motivation Letter / Portfolio and Entry Assessment (General Knowledge and Logic Test). For the 25th June, 2018 cohort, we have 180 seats available (first come first served)
     
    Below are the steps to fill the registration form of the first selection process:
    1. Prepare your motivation letter to explain below questions: (approximately 300 - 500 words)
    a. What prompted you to follow Apple Developer Academy @ BINUS program
    b. What do you expect to gain professionaly from this program
    c. What can you contribute by means of your particular skills and expertise both to the community and to the participants of this program
     
    2. Prepare your Photo, CV, Portfolio and other supporting documents that shown your achievements within the last 5 years. Upload those documents. In the registration form, we have prepared 5 fields to put those links.
     
    3. Register yourself by submitting the registration form including the above information. Make sure you give us your active email.
     
    4. After you finished submitting your registration form, you will get directly a verification email. If you did not receive any email, please check your junk/spam folder and inform us immediately at apple.academy@binus.edu.
     
    5. We will review your application and send you an invitation for further entry assessment via email
     
    6. Once you completed all the selection process, we will announce the results through the email given in your registration form. Please give a confirmation within 5 (five) working days. Your confirmation will lock your seat.

  • What are the schedules of program activities?

    The program is held Monday through Friday with dedication of 20 hours a week in the morning or afternoon (minimum 4 hours per day).  There is no official night time or weekend activity, but some optional events and seminars may be held during off-hours on an ad hoc basis. A collaborative studio is available for utilization beyond the official 20 hours; i.e. the morning class starts at 9 am to 1 pm, thus you can continue your study group from 2 pm to 6 pm in the collaborative area.
  • What is the start date of the program and the duration of the program?

    This 36-weeks (9 months) intensive program will be started on March 2019. We are planning other courses that will be released later, register your e-mail and do not miss any news from the first Academy in Indonesia
  • What is the cost of the program for participants?

    There is no charge for students.
  • Is there any financial aid for the participants?

    Participants will receive a transportation allowance on a monthly basis.
  • Will I have a certificate at the end of the program?

    Yes, you will have a program completion certificate with terms and conditions that will be stated during the first day of class. However a full time commitment is needed.

  • I want to create or enhance my iOS Developer Team. Is there any BINUS Academy for business?

    BINUS Creates and BINUS StartUp Accelerator is a unit under the coordination of the BINUS UNIVERSITY to meet the specific demands of companies who crave for partners with agile and innovative mindset of a startup, but that still maintains traditional processes. To meet the challenges of every opportunity, these young entrepreneurs, endorsed by BINUS UNIVERSITY, form a flexible and reliable organization to respond in an innovative way to the needs of companies that wish to enter the universe of iOS solutions.
  • If I have an idea for the apps that I would like to create, can I create it during this program?

    We are welcome for any idea , however the idea should not be for the purpose of any institution/corporate, instead it should be for the good of our large community.
