BSSC WONDER (BSSC Welcoming New Boarder) is an annual welcoming event organised by the BINUS Square Student Committee (BSSC) to introduce new boarders to both the BINUS Square environment and their fellow boarders. Each year, the event features a unique theme. For 2024, the theme was “Daylong Journey Of Timeless Memories,” inspired by Jules Verne’s novel “Around the World in 80 Days.” This theme was chosen because it aligns with the core objective of BSSC WONDER, which is to familiarise new boarders with BINUS Square, while also echoing the exploratory spirit of past themes. This year’s BSSC WONDER was held for 2 days, with the first batch being held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, with 110 participants, and the second batch being held on Sunday, September 1, 2024, with 150 participants.

The first activity involved listening to several welcoming speeches, including those from Felicia Susanty, Project Manager of BSSC WONDER 2024, Kent Alber Fredson, Chairman of BSSC 14th Presidency, Mr. Aditia Perdana, Student Support Office Manager of BINUS Square, and Ms. Yuliana, General Manager of BINUS Square Hall of Residence.

Following the welcoming speeches, participants listened to presentations about BINUS Square Student Committee (BSSC) and the BINUS Square Ambassadors (BSA), including the BSSC Senior Committee (BSSC SC), Floor Coordinator (FC), Housing Coordinator (HC), and Academic Ambassador (AA). These presentations aimed to explain their roles and to increase the interest of new boarders in actively participating and enhancing their soft skills during their stay at BINUS Square.

Before we continued to the main event, there was a break time to allow participants time to recharge and prepare themselves for the challenges awaiting them at the next session. The next activity was games. During this session, participants were divided into groups and guided by Team Guides to several designated stations to collect stamps as proof that they had passed each station and completed the prepared games. The game session consisted of 9 stations, with 5 of them featuring
games that had to be completed to earn a stamp pass before proceeding to the next location. The names of these 5 games were: Escape Calcutta’s Prison, Hold the Storm’s Wind, Global Mimicry, Inform the Master, and Newfound Bond. The purpose of playing these games was not only to have fun with the new boarders but also to fulfil the main goal of BSSC WONDER, which was to expand their network of friends by getting to know other new boarders and to introduce them to the environment of BINUS Square.

There was a point system in place, where winning games would contribute to a cumulative score calculated at the end of the event to determine the overall winners. Additionally, there was a hidden game called Treasure Hunt. The Treasure Hunt was a special hidden game designed to add an extra layer of excitement and strategy to the event. Its hidden nature stemmed from the implicit way teams received information about it. Unlike the other games, details about the Treasure Hunt were not explicitly announced; instead, teams had to be observant and attentive to subtle clues throughout the event. In the Treasure Hunt, participants needed to search for a concealed object containing special words. Finding this hidden treasure awarded the team 1 additional point, which could significantly boost their chances of winning. The game encouraged teams to stay engaged and proactive, enhancing their overall experience and competitive edge.

After the game session concluded, they listened to the announcement of the winners and the results of the games they had just played. On day 1, the winners were as follows: 1st place was the Deep Blue Team, 2nd place was the Orange Team, and 3rd place was the Light Blue Team. On day 2, the winners were: 1st place was the Purple Team, 2nd place was the Light Blue Team, and 3rd place was the Light Yellow Team. The event concluded with a documentation session that involved all of BSSC WONDER 2024 participants, volunteers and committee members. With all of that, the event went smoothly, happily, and left a lasting impression. We are truly honored by this event because so many participants were enthusiastic about it, and we are very grateful.
