Event Review BSSC Workshop “Art and Culture of Origami”

BSSC Workshop is one of the events held by BSSC Culture Division, in which participants could participate directly in practicing a certain skill. This year, BSSC Workshop is held with the theme of “Art and Culture of Origami”, to introduce paper folding crafts from Japan, namely origami. The series of activities in this workshop are origami competition, games, delivery of material, and origami folding practice session.

This event was held online through ZOOM Meeting on August 20th, 2021, from 15.00 WIB to 17.40 WIB. The participants were taught directly by an expert in the origami field, Guy Binyamin from Israel, to fold butterfly, apple, and Japanese traditional doll (Kokeshi Doll). In addition to learning how to fold origami and practicing them, participants also learned about the origin and the cultural elements of origami; as well as the contributions of origami, trends, and origami folding techniques directly from the speaker. Due to excellent mastery of the material, the speaker was able to make the participants feel more enthusiastic and vibrant. The speaker also displayed the origami works he published on Instagram and YouTube.

Before the practice sessions, the workshop started with the opening remarks from the MC and welcome remarks from the Project Manager, and also the announcement about the origami competition. The participants also played games called “Guess the Shape” on Kahoot and “Yes No Maybe” to ease the tension during the workshop. Throughout the workshop, the participants were able to interact with the speaker directly through Mentimeter, the QnA session, and the ZOOM chat box.

BSSC Workshop was attended by boarders of BINUS Square and BINUSIAN. Before the closing of this workshop, there was a documentation session in which all participants, committees, and the speaker took photos together as a form of appreciation to all parties and as a memento.

In conclusion, through the BSSC Workshop “Art and Culture of Origami”, the participants got to know more about Japanese culture and also increased their creativity in doing handicrafts. The participants also expressed their gratitude and admiration toward the speaker several times, throughout the event and also through the questionnaire we shared at the end of the event. We hope that the BSSC Workshop “Art and Culture of Origami” leaves a good impression on the participants. We also hope that they are able to gain international experience from BSSC and be able to respect the culture of other countries through this workshop.
