Korean Language Class
Korean Language Class is one of the language classes held by BSSC Culture Division this term. This class facilitates boarders that have interest in Korea. This Korean Language Class started on April 2nd, 2019. The aim of this class was to improve boarders’ knowledge in Korea, might it be the language, the culture, or the etiquette. Boarders will be able to make new friends with their teachers, which are Korean native speakers, and the other boarders that joined the class. There are five teachers in the class. They are Kim Hyeonji, Lee Sujung, Yoon Jiyeong, Lee Junho, and Shin Yerim. Korean class was held in a total of six meetings. Five of them were in class and the last one was a farewell party. The in-class meetings were held weekly. In the class, they students were taught about basic conversation in public places, such as convenience store and restaurant and how to introduce yourself in Korean.
Korean alphabets were also taught to improve student’s ability on reading and understanding Korean word and how to pronounce it. Not only studying, Korean class also provided games like guessing the name of the things that have been showed in the picture. Korean teachers also provided movie time to help students understand their culture much better, like what trend is uprising in Korea right now (K-pop, K-drama). Lastly, students and teachers are invited to join the farewell party as a closing to the meetings where they can interact more outside the class. There were a lot of performances and food served to light up the party. At the end of the farewell party, the teachers got a certificate and merchandises as an appreciation for teaching the language class. Then, they took a photo together with the committee and participants.
Korean Language Class got great responses from students. It was proved by the questionnaires given. The class reached 95% of satisfaction percentage. Both teachers and students were satisfied. Students got what they wanted from the teachers, such as Korean culture, games, and their language (how to read or pronounce them). The teachers felt the same. They got the experience on teaching and sharing their culture to students. They also learned Indonesian culture from conversation that happened while in or not in class. We hope that for the next language class terms, we could open another Korean class and make it better than before.
