You\u2019ll encounter it in journal articles and books on academic topics and be expected to write your essays, research papers, and dissertations in a literary style.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Academic writing follows the same writing process as other types of texts, but it has specific content, structure, and style conventions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">You will need to use more than one type in many academic texts. For example, in an <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Empirical_research\">empirical thesis<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>you will use critical writing in the literature review to show where there is a gap or opportunity in the existing research.<\/li>\n<li>the methods section will be primarily descriptive to summarise the methods used to collect and analyze information.<\/li>\n<li>the results section will be primarily descriptive and analytical as you report on the data you collected.<\/li>\n<li>the discussion section is more analytical, as you relate your findings to your research questions, and persuasive as you propose your interpretations of the findings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Different types of academic writing include:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>abstract<\/li>\n<li>annotated bibliography<\/li>\n<li>academic journal<\/li>\n<li>article<\/li>\n<li>book report<\/li>\n<li>dissertation<\/li>\n<li>essay<\/li>\n<li>conference paper<\/li>\n<li>dissertation<\/li>\n<li>research proposal<\/li>\n<li>thesis<\/li>\n<li>textbook<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><em>By: Desi Indrawati<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/binus.ac.id\/bandung\">BINUS @Bandung<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Academic writing is a formal style of writing used in universities and scholarly publications.
