About Australian Embassy Media and Strategic Communications
The Media and Strategic Communications Section works with the Public Diplomacy area responsible for the Australian Embassy, Jakarta’s media and messaging in support of the Australian Government’s policy objectives. It works with Australian government agencies in Indonesia, Australia and in the region to project a positive and balanced image of Australia and its policies.
About the position
Under general direction, the Media Officer is required to create and collate social media material, translate articles and speeches, monitor media and provide media support to the Embassy’s broader public diplomacy activities.
The key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
• Monitor daily media and report on particular issues of interest
• Undertake translations of reports, articles, media releases, fact sheets and other documents and publications
• Provide media support for Embassy events and high- level visits
• Assist with drafting, producing and distributing media releases and other publicity for all areas of the mission
• Create and adapt content for Embassy website, Facebook, Twitter and all new online platforms
• Create and develop presentations, info graphics and other modules
• Advise on media matters with other Australian government agencies, and managing contractors.
• Liaise with media and provide input to responses to media enquiries and briefings.
• Organise strategic media and public affairs events including lectures, seminars and other promotional activities.
• Organise media visits and accompany Indonesian media to Australia or to regional areas of Indonesia to showcase Australian programs or expertise
• Liaise with key contacts at the Palace or Indonesian ministries regarding media arrangements for HOM or ministerial visits
• Provide support for high level visits by Australian ministers or the Prime Minister, including arranging media and logistics
• Initiate promotional opportunities and work in a small team.
Qualifications/Experience
• High-level Indonesian and English language skills
• University graduate preferred
• Demonstrated professional/technical qualifications or specialist expertise, knowledge or experience in some or all: translation, media management and/or social media
