Teleos, in association with The KNOW Network, has announced the 20 Winners of the 2014 Asian Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises (MAKE) study. The Singapore Armed Forces has been recognized as the Overall Asian MAKE Winner for the second time.

A panel of Asian-based Fortune 500 senior executives and internationally recognized knowledge management / intellectual capital experts selected the Winners. The panel rated organizations against the MAKE framework of eight key knowledge performance dimensions – visible drivers of competitive advantage and intellectual capital growth:

– Creating an enterprise knowledge-driven culture
– Developing knowledge workers through senior management leadership
– Innovation
– Maximizing enterprise intellectual capital
– Creating an enterprise collaborative knowledge sharing environment
– Creating a learning organization
– Delivering value based on customer/stakeholder knowledge
– Transforming enterprise knowledge into shareholder/stakeholder value

This year 68 Asian-headquartered organizations received nominations, and from this group 35 enterprises were recognized as 2014 Asian MAKE Finalists.

The 2014 Asian MAKE Conference and Awards Ceremony, organized by the Knowledge Management and Innovation Research Centre (KMIRC) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, will be held in Hong Kong in January 2015.

 

2014 Asian MAKE Winners

Arup Hong Kong (Hong Kong SAR, China)

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Arup Hong Kong for enterprise-wide collaboration and knowledge sharing. This is the fourth time Arup Hong Kong has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (China)

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized the Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. for developing knowledge workers through senior management leadership. This is the third time that Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

Baosteel always takes ‘To become the most competitive steel enterprise in the world’ as its strategic target, centers on core competitiveness enhancement and construction, focuses on product development, technology innovation, management innovation, system capability and social responsibility, and follows the road of “open-independent integration & innovation,” in order to turn challenges into opportunities, construct a steel enterprise most admired by the society and maintain Baosteel’s competitiveness in an all-round way.

According to a spokesman from Baosteel, “Knowledge management is an arduous system project. Therefore, Baosteel systematically drives the construction of knowledge sharing environment by means of “atmosphere cultivation, hardware environment and information platform” and fosters the cultural atmosphere that takes delight in sharing and turns tacit knowledge to explicit knowledge.”

BINUS University (Indonesia)

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Indonesia’s BINUS University for creating a knowledge-driven enterprise culture. This is the first time BINUS University has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

Professor Dr. Ir. Harjanto Prabowo, MM Rector of Bina Nusantara University (BINUS University), said: “Bina Nusantara University has achieved the Indonesian MAKE Award Winner for 8 times in a row from 2007 to 2014 and received the special recognition for “strong internal admirable commitment” in 2011 Indonesian MAKE Study Award, and special recognition for “admirable consistency in improving KM implementation” in 2013 Indonesian MAKE Study Award. It is a great honor to receive another special recognition in 2014 Asian MAKE Study Award.”

CCC Heep Woh College (Hong Kong SAR, China)

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized CCC Heep Woh College (HWC) for integrating information and people for managing knowledge to build up a learning organization in a secondary school. This is the first time HWC has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

Although Knowledge Management (KM) has been regarded as a promising management strategy in the business world for leveraging their intellectual assets, schools seem to be lagging behind in introducing KM as a practice and also ignoring the essence of knowledge. Dr. Alex Chu, the Principal of HWC, believes that a school should be a learning organization with improving the practice by gathering tacit and explicit knowledge from experienced teachers and sharing of good practice among teachers, so that students can be benefited from high quality educational services provided by the school.

eClerx Services (India)

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized eClerx Services for delivering value based on customer/stakeholder knowledge. This is the second time that eClerx Services has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

Commenting on winning the award, PD Mundhra, co-founder and executive director of eClerx, said, “eClerx is delighted to be recognized as a MAKE Asia winner for the second time. Hindustan Unilever Limited (India)

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Hindustan Unilever Limited for maximizing enterprise intellectual capital. This is the first time that HUL has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

Infosys Limited (India)

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Infosys Limited for creating a knowledge-driven enterprise culture. Infosys Limited is a 12-time Asian MAKE Winner.

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) for enterprise-wide collaboration and knowledge sharing. This is the seventh consecutive year that K-has been an Asian MAKE Winner.

Vice President Haksoo Lee of K-water, who is also the CKO (Chief Knowledge Officer) expressed his gratitude after receiving the recognition, saying that: “I am delighted that K-water was honored with the Asian MAKE Award for 7 consecutive years. The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Pertamina for creating a knowledge-driven enterprise culture. This is the second time that Pertamina has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Samsung Electronics for transforming enterprise knowledge into stakeholder value. Samsung Electronics is a four-time Asian MAKE Winner.

Samsung SDS (South Korea)

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel recognized Samsung SDS for creating a learning organization. Samsung SDS is a 13-time Asian MAKE Winner (including 2007, 2009 and 2012 Overall Asian MAKE Winner).

Hodeuk Choi, CKO of Samsung SDS, said: “It is a great honor to receive the 2014 Asian MAKE Award. Singapore Armed Forces (Singapore)

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) for creating a learning organization. This is the fifth consecutive year that the Singapore Armed Forces has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner (including 2010 and 2014 Overall Asian MAKE Winner).

Brigadier General Milton Ong, Head of Joint Communications and Information System (HJCIS) of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), said: “The Singapore Armed Forces is honored to receive the Asian Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) 2014 Award. Winning this award five years in a row is a good testimony of our continuous efforts to improve ourselves as a knowledge-based organization. It also represents our commitment to constantly develop our people to their fullest potential and help them to be resilient and innovative in dealing with the increasing complexity and challenges in an uncertain and dynamic world.”

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for creating a knowledge-driven enterprise culture. Tata Consultancy Services is a 10-time Asian MAKE Winner.

The Titan Company (India)

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized The Titan Company for innovation and new product development. This is the first time that The Titan Company has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

Toyota Motor Corporation (Japan)

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Toyota Motor Corporation for transforming enterprise knowledge into stakeholder value. Toyota is a 12-time Asian MAKE Winner (including 2002-2006 and 2013 Overall Asian MAKE Winner).

Tsingtao Brewery (China)

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Tsingtao Brewery for creating a knowledge-driven enterprise culture. This is the first time that Tsingtao Brewery has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

The 2014 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Woods Bagot for managing customer knowledge and transforming enterprise knowledge into stakeholder value. Woods Bagot is a five-time Asian MAKE Winner.
