Mandarin Language Class

BSSC is the only organization in BINUS Square that provide boarders with various events and activities. One of the activities held by BSSC OSR Culture Division is Mandarin Language Class. This Language Class is made to facilitate interested boarders in learning Mandarin. That’s why this class is focused only on the materials related to everyday use, such as pronunciation, vocabulary, common words and slangs in Mandarin, and how to write Hànzì (汉字) correctly.

The class was taught by Chen Rong, a native Chinese speaker who is also an exchange student living in BINUS Square. Chen Rong is a dedicated teacher. She taught all her students from the very beginning and tried her best until her students were able to say or write correctly. This year, Mandarin Class had 5 classroom meetings and 1 session for them to hang out together. The meetings were held every Monday from 07.30 PM to 10.00 PM in BS302, starting November 6th, 2017.    In the class, there were so many materials discussed, started from greetings and introduction, to basic consonant, subjects, common sentences, adjectives, and various vocabularies (weather, sport, family tree, animals, etc.). When it was time for the hangout session, they went to a Chinese restaurant called Eaton, which is located on Perjuangan Street, Kebon Jeruk. There, they had dinner and enjoyed their moment together.

This year, the class was attended by 18 people. At first, the atmosphere inside was so tense and a little bit awkward. But, as the teaching continued to the next meetings, things got softer and the tenseness slowly subsided. Quietness changed into laughter and they finally became close. In the end, the class was both beneficial and memorable. There were lots of great experiences that cannot be explained by words, and most importantly all these could be achieved by the help of Mandarin teacher for the effort and dedication.
